OVERSIGHT AT THE BORDER CHECKPOINT

RED ANT

The dishonesty of the returning locally stranded individuals (LSI’s) and the greediness of some transport operators (van) is contributing to the spiking spread of the dreaded SARS-CoV-2 in the Bicol Region.

The the eagerness of the returning LSI’s to be back home to their respective hometowns and the compulsive attitudes to earn money of some van operators is adding to the already existing  dreadful situation.

These dysfunctional display of attitudes made travellers and transport operators are outrageous. These are outright contrary to the mitigation plan to contain the spread of the SARS-CoV 2 virus in the Bicol peninsula and to the island provinces.

The already precarious health menace that is already upon us for almost a year now are considered contributory drivers that this pandemic will continue to paint a bleak prospect to get out of the loop.

As to the case of the province of Catanduanes who have recorded three waves of incidents: first incident there were four individuals, followed by six individuals and the last was composed of nine persons is already alarming.

The arrivals of these ‘pasaways’ have caused an undue alarm to the people of the ‘Happy Island’ eventhough the returning individuals were required to submit themselves to the isolation facility in Virac.

There are still others that need to be accounted for particularly those who slipped past through the shorelines between Caramoran and San Andres.

Although in Catanduanes through Governor Joseph C. Cua has made a pronouncement urging his municipal mayor to initiate legal actions against these returning but hardheaded ‘mga sutil’ local stranded individuals from Metro Manila to be discipline – but the favorable response from the local chief executives of Catanduanes are remain to be seen.

The vigilance and cooperation of every local government unit will provide a multiplier force to safeguard the host family and community where these returning individuals belong.

Monitoring at the municipal level is the key to track down these individuals.

An oversight review becomes now the imperatives for the regional inter-agency task force to take a closer scrutiny what went wrong or where the loopholes can be minimize if not avoided.

Complacency is a driver to the stay of the pandemic in the countryside and it’s better to comply with the mitigation plan in simply following that ounce prevention is better than the pound of cure.

Gender-based violence is one of the most pervasive and yet less-recognized human rights abuses in the world.

rapecartoonLegazpi City, [12.27.17]  –  As we attempt to highlight the breadth of our reportage on various issues that unfolds within our community, The Philippine Examiner decided to feature the plight of women and children in the Bicol region as the year 2017 is about to end.

Certainly, this is not an unpretentious in-depth year-end news reporting, as we opted not to be restrictive – by access, time and resources, despite limited time, we state a fact to tell the stories of women and children.
