Masbate City, [12.17.22] – A member of Alpha Phi Omega has died while another fraternity member was wounded in a midnight roadside shooting incident on Friday.
According to a report from Police Lieutenant Antonio Aa. Padilla, Jr, Officer-in-Charge of Baleno Municipal Police Station, the shooting incident transpired in Barangay Cagpandan, Baleno, Masbate.
The police identified the victims as Renante Parohinog y Marcial, 37 years old, married, a security guard from Barangay Poblacion, Aroroy, Masbate, and Aljon Cortes y Curimao, 32 years old, married, and a small-scale miner from Barangay Lahong, Baleno, Masbate.
Parohinog succumbed to a gunshot wound on his chest while Cortes was wounded and treated at the Masbate Provincial Hospital.
Their companion, Brandon Cortes y Andeza, 19 years old and a Grade 11 of Barangay Lahong, Baleno, Masbate, was reported unharmed in the incident.
The police investigation revealed the victims attended an anniversary (fraternity) party left the venue at around 11:30 PM and proceeded to Barangay Manoboc, Baleno on board two single motorcycles (Black Bajaj and Yamaha XSR 155).
Upon reaching the area of Cagpandan, they pulled over on the roadside to pee.
When they about to embarked on their motorcycle to resume their trip – they were fired upon by the suspect/s from the hilly part of the road.
The wounded victims were assisted by Divino Laurio y Riva, an enlisted Philippine Navy personnel, and Roy Nagtalon y Nacionales to be brought to the local hospital helped Parohinog to be brought to the Baleno Rural Health Unit.
The wounded victims were seen by Laurio and Nagtalon while passing the crime scene.
One caliber .45 with an inserted magazine loaded with one live ammunition and an empty cartridge for the same caliber, and one black sling bag with documents and pieces of evidence on the crime scene was turned over to the police by Laurio and Nagtalon.
