Camp BGen Simeon A. Ola, Legazpi City – Rolling pasturelands and coconut farms, fine white-sand beaches, abundant fishing grounds and rich gold deposits virtually make the island-province of Masbate a paradise.

But behind its scenic attraction is the disturbing concern on shooting incidents. Among the six (6) provinces, Masbate has the highest shooting incident recorded from January 2018 to April 2018 which caused the death of the three (3) victims.

Alarmed on the rampant shooting incidents, Masbate Police Provincial Office strengthened the conduct of various security interventions to pre-empt the further increase of the said incidents.

A total of one thousand forty-six (1,046) intensified Checkpoint on the strategic areas has been administered to monitor the movement of vehicles and assure the implementation of traffic rules and regulations which resulted on the issuance of two hundred one (201) Traffic Citation Tickets, six hundred forty-three (643) Temporary Operator’s Permit, one hundred (100) impounded vehicles and the arrest of ninety-six (96) traffic law violators within the given period.

Oplan Bakal and Oplan Sita were carried out with three hundred forty-six (346) and four hundred sixty-two (462) recorded apprehension.

Further, four hundred seventy-one (471) Motorcycle Cops Against criminality (MOCACs) were deployed in the province and other Police Operations has been deepened to help address the shooting incidents.

Information dissemination and community engagement were also part of the interventions in the province wherein four hundred five (405) information operations were managed, reaching out to the community and keeping them aware on the intervention that the organization pursue.

On the other hand, two hundred sixty-nine (269) stakeholders’ engagement has been dole out encompassing stronger ties within the area of responsibility.

With the unrelenting efforts exhibited by Masbate Police Provincial Office, a total of six thousand two hundred sixty-five (6,265) personalities were identified holding unlicensed firearms and five thousand one hundred ninety-three (5,193) number of estimated loose firearms has been recorded.

The identification of these personalities were made possible through the utilization of three thousand forty-nine (3,049) Barangay Information Networks (BINs) thus pursuing the vision of PNP to work in partnership with a responsive community towards the attainment of a safer place to live, work and do business.

Case reviews in relation to the shooting incidents in the province are as well undertaken.

On Thursday, May 3, 2018 Baleno Municipal Police Station under Police Senior Inspector Harris H. Castillo implemented a COMELEC checkpoint in downtown Baleno from 2:00 o’ clock in the afternoon up to 4:00 0’ clock in the afternoon – with no untoward incidents recorded, like traffic violations, traffic citation certificate issuance against motorists, confiscated items like guns and other contrabands .
