Legazpi City, [10.13.17] – A new group of individuals in the province of Albay had bonded together and formed a group, dubbed as Society Advocating for the Value of Environment for Mayon [S.A.V.E MAYON], to oppose the construction of a road network inside the Mayon Volcano Natural Park.
The newly group are mostly composed of local environmentalist, conservationists, academe has registered their anger and disapproval to the proposed road network within the permanent six kilometer danger zone.
The group cited their disapproval to the road construction as a gross violation of Republic Act 7586, otherwise known as the National Integrated Protected Areas System (NIPAS) Act of 1992.
In their post in a social media platform, the Society Advocating for the Value of Environment for Mayon [S.A.V.E MAYON] has cited Section 20 of the Republic Act 7586 which defines the prohibited acts and activities within the declared protected sites.
The group has organized a protest against the infrastructure project by the Department of Public Works and Highways by by walking/biking/running on the 1.9 kilometers this forthcoming October 22, 2017.
The activity will start from Apparition Chapel in Upper Bonga, Bacacay, Albay up to the location of the ongoing road opening, where trees were felled even without a permit to cut.
Albay was declared as UNESCO Biosphere Man Reserve in Lima Peru last year, in which Mayon Volcano Natural Park is included in the list and was placed by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources as protected area.
Meantime, former Albay vice governor James Bragais Calisin also posted on his social media wall, and he said in vernacular…

Calisin is the principal author of the Environmental Code of Albay during his term as the provincial vice governor.
