Legazpi City, [10.07.17] – A responding policeman has died in a local hospital in Legazpi City on Friday evening after he was fatally shot in he chest by armed suspect along Don Juan Street, Iraya in Guinobatan, Albay, while the male suspect was also pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician of Josefina Belmonte Duran Memorial District Hospital.
Police Chief Inspector Arthur Ramirez Gomez, Public Information Officer of Albay Police Provincial Office identified the victim Police Officer 2 Herbert Jayson P. Sambajon, married, PNP member assigned at Guinobatan Municipal Police Station, and a resident of Barangay Inamnan Grande, Guinobatan, Albay.
The four man team of Guinobatan Municipal Police Station led by Senior Police Officer 1 Allan Cortuna together with the victim responded to the reported alarm and scandal incident at the back of Guinobatan Public Market particularly at Purok 7, Barangay Iraya, Guinobatan Albay at 10:15 o’ clock in the evening of October 6, 2017.
While the team was in pursuit of the involved persons, the victim called the attention of the suspect, Dennis Saysay y Osila, of legal age, married, and a resident of Sitio Quisape, Barangay Maguiron, Guinobatan, Albay who was running heading towards Don Juan Street, Iraya from M.H. Del Pilar Street.
However, the suspect suddenly drew a caliber .38 revolver and shot the victim hitting his chest, prompting the victim to retaliate hitting the suspect on the different parts of his body.
The victim was brought to Aquinas University Hospital, Legazpi City for medical treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
The suspect was brought to Jose Belmonte Duran Memorial District Hospital, Ligao City but was also pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
SOCO team who processed the crime scene has recovered one caliber .38 revolver loaded with four (4) live ammunition, one (1) pouch containing six (6) live ammunition, fourteen (14) fired cartridge cases for caliber .9mm and issued firearm of the victim, a Glock 17 .9mm pistol bearing Serial Number PNP 53960.
