Masbate City, [06.17.17] – Five fishermen were apprehended by Monreal Municipal Police Station at 12:45 o’ clock dawn today off the waters of Sitio Parola, Barangay Guindahap, Monreal, Masbate while in the act of “compressor fishing” a prohibited fishing act under the Philippine Fishery Code of 1988, police report say.
The apprehended fishermen were identified as Gil Tupas y Esmas, 33 years old, married, boat captain/engine man; Bryan Esmas y Esparas, 20 years old, married, fisherman/diver; Jay-ar Esparas y Mabuti, 25 years old, married, fisherman/diver; Raul Baldeo y Bartolay, 40 years old, married, fisherman/diver, all residents of Sitio Cueva, Barangay Guindahap, Monreal, Masbate; and Junil Jardin y Bartolay, 27 years old, married, “habal-habal” driver/paddle man, a resident of Barangay Poblacion, Monreal, Masbate.
Recovered from the suspect’s possession were the following items: one motorized banca with 10 horse power Briggs and Straton engine; one air a compressor; one air tank; three rolls of hose; three flashlights; two improvised goggles; four improvise wooden spearguns; and one wooden paddle.
The apprehended persons are now in police custody of and charges of violation of the PHILIPPINE FISHERIES CODE OF 1998″ is being prepared against the suspect.
Meanwhile, an “Oplan Sagip Karagatan” launched by Mandaon Municipal Police Station on June 13, 2017 has also apprehended two fishing vessels and its crews for violations of Section 93, Section 95 and Section 97 of Republic Act 10654.
A seaborne patrol at the seawater of Barangay Cagmasoso was conducted after receiving information from concerned citizen, Police Senior Inspector Julius I. Prima said.
At about 02:00 o’ clock in the morning of June 13, 2017 the team apprehended the fishing crews of F/B LAURA LAVI for violation of Section 93, Sectionn 95 and Section 97 of Republic Act 10654, otherwise known as ” AN ACT TO PREVENT, DETER AND ELIMINATE ILLEGAL, UNREPORTED AND UNREGULATED FISHING, AMENDING RA 8550, OTHERWISE KNOWN AS ” THE PHILIPPINE FISHERIES CODE OF 1998″.
While on their wayback to Mandaon Municipal Police Station, they caught another fishing boat named F/B MM locally known as “Hulbot-Hulbot” which also violated the Sec. 93, Sec. 95 and Sec. 97 of RA 10654.
