Legazpi  City, [04.21.17] – At least two minors and an old woman were reportedly killed and one wounded after they were caught in  the middle of a clash between the government troops and suspected communist rebels in Sitio Lubigan, Barangay Pananawan, Cawayan, Masbate on Thrsday morning, a report reaching Camp Simeon A. Ola said.

According to Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa C. Calubaquib, PRO-5 Spokesperson the troops of the 3rd Scout Ranger Company, Philippine Army led by Lieiutenant Karl John Cabillo and estimated seven communist terrorists engaged in an encounter.

The troops from the 3rd Scout Ranger Company  were conducting  combat operation in the vicinity of Sitio Lubigan, Barangay Pananawan encountered the communist  terrorists who were positioned outside the house of Paulino Pepito y Cuyos.

The victims were trapped inside the house at the height of the encounter. The victims were identified as Lolita Pepito y Villamor, 70 years old, married and her grandchildren Crislyn Pepito, 11 years old, grade 4 pupil and Reden Pepito, 9 years old.

Paulino Pepito sustained gunshot wounds on the left side of his arm, while Lolita and her two grandchildren died on the spot due to multiple gunshot wounds.

The enemy fled towards unknown direction. There was no reported casualty on the government side while undetermined on the enemy side.

In the meantime, on April 19, 2017, one section from Bravo Coy, 83rd Infantry Battallion and one team from 97th Military Intelligence Company led by 1st Lieiutenant Catuday, while conducting strike operation, encountered more or less five New People’s Army, believed to members of Larangan 1, Komiteng Propaganda 5, at the vicinity of Barangay Talisay, Oas, Albay.

The encounter lasted for about ten minutes then the enemies withdrew to the northeastern direction of Barangay Talisay, Oas, Albay leaving their killed comrade who was later identified as Deomedes Apiniado alyas Delio.

Government troops recovered one fragmentation hand grenade, one calibre .45, 5 live bullets of calibre .45 and subversive documents.

The Oas, Albay encounter was preceded by an earlier encounter which occurred at 10:30 o’ clock in the morning of April 15, 2017 at the vicinity of Barangay San Antonio Milagros, Masbate between one section of Bravo Company 2nd Infantry Battallion, Philippine Army led by Army Captain Cabangcala together with one squad of 93rd Division Reconnaisance Company [93rd DRC], 96th Military Intelligence Company [96th MICO] led by Army Captain Bonilla and undetermined number of heavily armed rebels.

Government troops encountered  the communists during combat operation and recovered one unidentified dead body, three M16 rifles, one M14 automatic rifle with bandolier, estimated twenty [20] improvised explosive devices , subversive documents and personal belongings from the scene of encounter.
