Legazpi City, [04.12.17] – The Police Regional Police – 5 has added another feather on its cap after a ten [10] kilos of methampethamine hydrochloride or commonly known as “shabu” was intercepted inside a sports utility vehicle parked inside the Port of Matnog Ferry Terminal.

Police Chief Superintendent Melvin Ramon G. Buenafe, Police Regional Police – 5 Regional Director the recovery of illegal drugs in Matnog, Sorsogon is another major achievement of PNP in Bicol region as far as its drive against prohibited substance.

The Police Regional Police – 5 Regional Director presented the latest illegal drug haul before the media on Wednesday night inside Camp Simeon A. Ola has admitted that the recovered contraband is the biggest in the first quarter of 2017, achieved by Police Regional Police – 5.

Buenafe disclosed that the recovered 10 kilos has an estimated street value amounting PhP50 million and it was 98% classified pure.

He also revealed that the vigilance of police of Matnog Municipal Police Station has paid off by promptly alerting the PNP Provincial Command about the suspicious Blue Toyota Revo’s presence inside the parking lot of the ferry terminal.

The recovered 20 packs sealed in a plastic has an average weight of 500 grams per pack has a total weight of of 10 kilos was placed inside the sport utility vehicle with plate number WLP-687 registered to Ramil Mercado of Fiherman’s Village, Malabon City.

Accordingly the vehicle came from Mindanao on April 7, 2017 Friday, particularly in Lipata Ferry Terminal in Surigao City and crossed to Liloan Ferry Terminal in Liloan, Southern Leyte. The vehicle has already paid a boarding ticket on its way back to Visayas again when intercepted.

PRO – 5 is now coordinating with National Capital Region Police to verify the name of the vehicle owner and the immediate arrest of the suspect.

In the same vein, Buenafe has admitted the importance of a sustained monitoring in all of ports and other gateways the entire region and he appealed  to the community and other stakeholders, to be more vigilant in order to curve the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.

Under the leadership of Police Chief Superintendent Buenafe as the PRO-5 regional director, Bicol has attained sterling accomplishment on anti-illegal drugs campaign.

First the recovery of 18 bricks of high grade cocaine surrendered by two fishermen in Barangay Sugod, Tiwi, Albay and was followed the raid on the clandestine shabu laboratory in Palta Small, Virac, Ccatanduanes.
