Sorsogon City, [04.05.17] – The Sorsogon City Anti-Drug Abuse Council [SCADAC] and the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council [BADAC] of Barangay Pang-Pang, Sorsogon City will be forced to to convene, conduct a barangay assembly and assess the status of illegal drug issues after an overseas Filipino worker was arrested yesterday in a buy-bust operation.
According to Police Superintendent Dionesio T. Laceda, Chief of Police of Sorsogon City Police Station, the joint elements of Sorsogon City Police Station and agents of PDEA – 5 launched a buy-bust operation in 8th Street, Barangay Pang-Pang Sorsogon City.
Superintendent Laceda has identified the suspect as Rowan Gaon Fresnido.
The suspect was arrested during the buy-bust operation at 8:20 o’ clock in the evening April 4, 2017.
He was entrapped by a poseur-buyer who bought one sachet of suspected methampethamine hydrochloride or “shabu”. Another two pieces of plastic sachets and one PhP500.00 bill used in the buy-bust was confiscated from the suspect’s possession.
Laceda told the Philippine Examiner that the suspect was arrested in a drug-cleared barangay. However, barangay Pang-Pang will undergo a process indicated in the Dangerous Drugs Board Regulation #3, Series of 2017 that in the event of new reports regarding any illegal drug activities, the status of the concerned cleared barangay will not be automatically reverted to drug affected barangay.
The Oversight committee will validate first the report and mandate the Barangay Anti-Drug Abuse Council [BADAC] to convene, conduct a barangay assembly and assess the status in the area, he explained.
Sorsogon City with 53 drug affected barangays was finally declared a drug- cleared city and the “One Sorsogon” Project was formally launched only last March 3, 2017, but the recent arrest of Rowan Gaon Fresnido, a sustained anti-illegal drugs campaign is still needed.
