Legazpi City, [03.31.17] – A bloody shooting and hacking incident has transpired in a local gold panning site in Sitio Nabuyanan, Barangay Bonifacio, Uson, Masbate on Thursday morning that led to the death of a gold panner and wounding of another gold panner, police report said.
According to Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa C. Calubaquib, spokesperson of PR0-5 Regional Public Information Office, the shooting spree took place at 9:00 o’ clock Thursday morning of March 30, 2017.
The suspect was identified as Jonathan Cantoria y Estoya, 38 years old, married, gold panner, a resident of Sitio Nabuyanan, Barangay Bonifacio.
The two victims were identified by police as Marjun Revira y Dao, of legal age, married, gold panner and Danny Marange y Lequigan, of legal age, married, gold panner, both residents of Sitio Nabuyanan, Barangay Bonifacio, Uson, Masbate.
The suspect was armed with a firearm and bladed weapon “bolo” walking towards a trail heading to the gold panning site, shot Marjun Revira, who sustained gunshot wounds in the different parts of his body, police report said.
After shooting his first victim, the suspect saw Danny Marange and without apparent reason he shot the victim several times, hitting the different parts of his body.
After shooting his second victim, the suspect subsequently hacked Danny on the head causing, his instantaneous death.
Marjun D. Revira was brought to Masbate Provincial Hospital for immediate medical assistance.
The suspect voluntarily surrendered to tanods of Barangay Bonifacio and he turned-over to the custody of Uson Municipal Police Station.
Police recovered one unit magnum .357 revolver (paltik) marked Smith & Wesson without serial number loaded with two live ammunition and one “bolo” with blood stain measuring more or less 25 inches long with scabbard.
