Legazpi City, [03.16.17] – At six fishermen aboard on sx fishing boats were apprehended by authorities at 4:00 o’ clock in the morning of March 15, 2017 for violation of Section 93 of Republic Act 10654, police report reaching Camp Simeon A. Ola said.
According to Police Senior Inspector Maria Luisa C. Calubaquib, spokesperson of PR0-5 Regional Public Information Office a seaborne patrol launched by Police Senior Inspector Julius I. Prima, Officer-in-Charge of Mandaon Police Station and personnel of Mandaon local government unit has apprehended the six suspects.
The suspects were engaging in illegal fishing activities, using prohibited active fishing gears [fine meshed nets] in the prohibited distance of less than one kilometer from the shoreline of Barangay Maolingon, Mandaon, Masbate and other adjacent barangays
Six fishing vessels were named the police as F/B G-GAJE, F/B TRIPLE-2, F/B JOHN-JOHN, F/B ROVELYN, F/B LEO and the six apprehended fishermen were also identified as John G. Gonzales, Silver Bebas, Melven R. Relox, Romeo R. Salvador, Leo R. Deasis and Vincent R. Deasis.
All apprehended suspects were residents of Barangay Lantangan, Mandaon, Masbate.
Suspects were brought to Mandaon Police Station.
The suspects were caught engaging in illegal fishing activities with the prohibited distance of more or less one kilometer from the shoreline of the barangay declared as the marginal fishing ground.
The use of fine meshed nets in gathering and impoundments of big and small marine species are not allowed by law, due to its destructive effect on the fishery and acquatic resources of the country.
