Pilar, Sorsogon, [01.31.17] – At least six fishermen were arrested by combined elements of Pilar Municipal Police Station and Bantay Dagat for illegal fishing in a fish sanctuary of the coast of Barangay San Antonio Sapa, Pilar, Sorsogon on Monday evening.
The joint elements of Pilar Municipal Police Station led by Police Chief Inspector Ruel Morato Pedro, Acting Chief of Police and Bantay Dagat led by Arvi Arizapa held the suspects while fishing illegally in a fish sanctuary in Violation of Section 25 Municipal Ordinance Number 003 series of 2000 of Republic Act 8550 as amended by Republic Act 10654 or known as Illegal Fishing.
The suspects were arrested at around 8:30 o’ clock in the evening of January 30, 2017 on board on a banca fishing illegally in a protected marine area and were identified by identified as Ryan Cañelas y Alcaras, 30 years old, Sonny Legaspi y Scopon, 43 years old, Ronnie Roque y Rivero, 42 years old Joey Denso y Yglo, 44 years old all residents of Barangay Quezon, Bulan, Sorsogon, Danilo Samson y Botin, 45 years old and Danilo Samson y Botin of Aguinaldo, Bulan, Sorsogon, Police Chief Inspector Pedro said.
Recovered from the suspects’ possession of assorted fish weighing 30 kilos, two motorized engines [12 horsepower and 16 horse power], 50 meters compressor hose, compressor tank with engine, three spear guns, improvised flipper and five flashlights.
Arrested suspects are now under police custody.
