Galicia, Batan Island,Rapu Rapu, Albay [05.04.16] –  A stranded juvenile male whale shark [Rhincodon typus] locally known as butanding  in Barangay  Guinanayan, Galicia, Rapu Rapu, Albay was found dead when the team from BFAR – 5 arrived last April 29, 2016, a belated BFAR report said.

In a post by BFAR – 5 the juvenile male whale shark was discovered along the beach front in Barangay  Guinanayan, Galicia in Batan Island at 3:00 o’ clock in the afternoon of April 28,2016. arrived early morning the following day but the butanding was already dead.

The juvenile whale shark weighs more or less 500 kilos and  measuring 4.19 meters long the BFAR – 5 team revealed  with bruises in its ventral side as a result of its grounding and some net and rope marks.

The team collected sample tissues for future use and will be donated  to research institutions studying with on whale sharks before the team and the local fisherfolk i buried the butanding in the coast line of Galicia.
