SPHSSorsogon  City, [03.31.15] –To reject the renaming of  the iconic Sorsogon National High School to Dr. Sonny H. Escudero III Memorial High School majority of the school alumnus will be the rallying behind to the battle cry of the school’s Black Saturday Grand Alumni Reunion on April 4.

Violent comments from all over Sorsogon Province have snow balled when Board Member Roland Añonuevo have proposed a resolution renaming of SNHS to Escudero High School at the Sangguniang Panlalawigan without any consultation with the Alumni Association, Faculty, Parents Teachers Association and the Student Government to know the sentiment of the stakeholders.

As he noticed rejection from the alumni association Añonuevo, lambasted the members and challenged for a debate telling them that renaming SNHS is for the benefit of the students, and that the stake holders are dumb people who have done nothing for the school.

And that, only the Escudero’s have done good for the future of the students of the century old institution in the province. Some stakeholders have also expressed sentiments against Añonuevo’s unsavory  comments – that being a non-alumnus, he has no right to deride and put down the dignity of the general alumni membership, as if he is the only upright man in the city.

Meanwhile,City Councilor and lawyer Joven Laura who belongs to batch 1984 of Sorsogon National High School has pointed out its patrimonial value and does not deserve to be renamed.

Now a wide signature campaign to oppose the renaming and proposes to  to retain  the name SNHS, is being circulated to more than 50,000 graduates of the school.

The petition says that while the alumni association do not under value the achievements of the late Representative Salvador H. Escudero III,  but to rename SNHS for him, is putting the institution into imbroglio instead of institutionalizing the iconic name in which Escudero is being a part of the institution.

The petition also states that the late Representative Vicente Peralta and Senator Teodoro de Vera both have unparalleled achievements that Sorsogon can be proud of,  but it still the name of Sorsogon National High School being the only learning institution landmark  of the province, would ring bell to the alumni.  And that retaining the name is best deserved, several alumnus said.
