PROTEST IN DAANG MATUWID: The marchers denounces the abandonment of the well-being of SSS pensioners by the Aquino government.

Legazpi City – [01.30.16] – The groups from  Bagong Alyansang Makabayan [Bayan], Kilusang Mayo Uno [KMU] and the women group, Gabriela took the street from Sagpon, Daraga, Albay down to Peñaranda Park in Albay District this morning, to dramatize their call for the unjust scrapping down of the PhP2,000.00 increase in SSS pension.

The marchers has denounced the corruption in the Aquino government and tagged the President as heartless after the proposed House Bill 5842 was vetoed on January 14, 2016 and abandoning the well-being of it’s members and pensioners, for a dire financial reasons.

“If the government has appropriated the PhP60 billion for the Conditional Cash Transfer for the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, why the government can not provide pension for SSS,” the statement said.

The press statement also cited the ill effects of the widespread contractualization in the labor sector in the country as one of the culprit of SSS dwindling  membership and the fat salaries and big benefits accorded to the top officials of SSS.

According to Gregoria Baldo of Gabriela, we are redressing our grievances against the government for this recent decision.

[“Kadaklan kan mga pensioners anas na mga senior citizens, ini na kuta na sana an makakatabang sa sainda sa pag bakal nin bulong asin pang gurugastos sa uro-aldaw,”] Mostly of the pensioners are senior citizens, and the bill is the answer in purchasing their medicines including their daily needs, she lamented.

The original House Bill 175 was sponsored by BayanMuna partylist Congressmen, Neri J. Colmenar es and Carlos Isagani T. Zarate  in the House of Representative seeking an increase in pension under the Social Security System by amending Section 12 of Republic Act 1161, so that the present minimum monthly pension of PhP1,200 shall be raised to PhP3,200 for retirees with at least 10 years of credited service.

The rally is the series of protest launched by BayanMuna in the region, and was a culminating mass action in support to the nationwide day of protest initiated by BayanMuna in seeking increase of SSS pension.
