Legazpi City – [01.28.16] – A group from the progressive sector, Bagong Alyansang Makabayan [Bayan], Kilusang Mayo Uno [KMU] together with Social Security System members held a picket in front of the SSS – Legazpi Branch office this morning, demanding an explanation why the retirees pensions benefits is still being withheld.

Gregoria “Manay George” Baldo of Gabriela has called upon the SSS officials here to implement the PhP2,000.00 increase in benefits of member-pensioners despite the proposed bill was vetoed by President Benigno Simeon C. Aquino III.

Baldo said that the proposed increase is just and humane for its members, particularly, the pensioners.

Another woman, Maria Alegre, also pressed the increase by saying [“an gusto kan mga miembros asin pensioners madangog ninda an paliwanag kan SSS kun ngata ta dai pigtatao an dagdag na pension]

The member and pensioners of SSS wants to hear the reasons why the promised released is still not being implemented.

Alegre was quoting from the assurance of Bayan-Muna representative Congressman Neri Colmenares statement about the House of Representatives’ approval on its second reading on the bill providing for a Php2,000 across-the-board increase in pension for millions of pensioners of the Social Security System.

An increase of PhP500.00 would be enough in the meantime, Alegre said.

In the same vein, Jeanette T. Mapa, the Public Information Officer of the Social Security Services – Legazpi City Branch also explained that they will respect their opinions of its members and pensioners, as long as their protest is peaceful.

The controversial veto power of the President in scrapping the proposed bill, has created another flak from its members and pensioners against the administration as heartless.

The Social Security System has been the epicenter of condemnation because of the veto and a public uproar has snowballed again due to its inefficient collection.
