Zamboanga City, [08.28.15] – The leader of Abu Sayyaf Group who is suspected to be responsible in the infamous Sipadan kidnapping was arrested in a combined police and military operation on Tuesday in Barangay Poblacion, Tungawan, Zamboanga Sibugay, ranking police official said.
The leader of ASG-UTG leader was identified as Ibni Acosta.
He was arrested by the elements of 6th SF Battalion, Southern Command, Philippine Army and Zamboanga Sibugay Public Safety Company by virtue of warrant of arrest docketed under criminal case number 122473-122693 with 21 counts of kidnapping and serious illegal detention issued by Honorable Erlinda Pinera Uy presiding Judge Branch 162 Regional Trial Court NCR Pasig City dated September 11 2003.
Acosta who is carrying a PhP 4.3 million bounty on his head is responsible in the kidnapping of 21 people 15 years ago in Sipadan, Malaysia.
The bandits kidnapped 21 people in 2000 — 11 Malaysians, eight Europeans and two Filipinos – from the Sipadan dive resort in Malaysia.
